Remembering the old days when I was younger, big holidays such as New Year's Day, Thanks-Giving or Christmas were a big deal and widely celebrated by people. For instance, when Christmas was coming around the corner, all the TV and radio stations started playing Christmas carols all day long even in late November, way before Christmas day. Shops on the street installed Christmas trees with blinker shiny ornaments in front of their entrance doors and welcomed customers. The whole cities were filled with the festive mood. People walked on the streets in Christmas carol, chatting with their friends besides them with a big smile on their face. However, these days, I feel like the air of festivity is not booming as it used to be. It is probably because I don’t go to downtown areas where young people gather. There is a Bean Throwing Day called Setsubun in Japan. This holiday occurs on the first day of spring according to the lunar calendar. It involves scattering roasted beans around homes.
