What is the thing that you are most proud of your family?

I have two old brothers and no sisters. My mother and my whole family must have been delighted when she gave a birth of three sons because a boy was preferred over a girl that time. In the past and even today to some extents, the Korean society has deeply rooted in Confucianism. Confucian culture has dominated the society and the people’s perspective. Under the Confucian culture, it was imperative for a wife to deliver a boy who could carry on his family line. A woman could not succeed her family. Not delivering a boy was a valid reason for her to be kicked out of her house in old days. She had difficult time to raise her three sons. The worse thing was that she felt so lonely when the three sons became adults and they did not talk to her very often. Unlike daughters, sons tend to be less talkative and do not share the details of their daily routines with their mother or father. Above all, my parents have sacrificed their whole life for us. What they have done was all for us.
