what should i do?

I hate slugs and snails, especially slugs. They gnaw my pretty flower buds and leaves up in the dark and make them wither to die. So do rolly-pollys I put pieces of watermelon‘s rind on some possible spots in my garden at twilight and went out around ten p.m. to catch them with a bowl of acetate acid. I picked the pieces one by one and remove the bugs from the rinds and threw them into the strong vinegar. To avoid this disgusting job, how about to feed a chicken to eat them up all? It sounds a nice idea! But if I raise a chicken in my garden, surely will another problem occur. That is roaming cats in my neighborhood. will kill it! My husband suggested that we should raise a chicken and a dog together. But they might destroy my flowers by different ways.
