When do you prefer having a family gathering?

I have to work on a schedule due to the nature of my job in the aviation industry.
And on holidays when others go on vacation, because of the number of flights increases, so there are many cases that I can’t go on vacation to have family gathering.
So, I go to see my family when it’s not on a holiday. I think it’s better to move not on a holiday or weekdays because the transportation cost is much cheaper and it’s not crowded.
That’s why I prefer to have family-gathering not on a holiday.
