I am not sure my understanding is correct, but some people don’t want to reveal their real personality and hide it, so each person has their own persona to the public.

This is true, I agree. If people show their true selves then there would be anarchy and problems everywhere. This is the reason why we have education to show our best selves and have a better society as a result.
When we are alone, we can be our true selves. We wear \'masks\' to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
