Labor day, also known as International Workers\' Day is a celebration of laborers that is promoted by the international labor movement and occurs every year on May Day. The general strike in the United States in 1886 is regarded as the beginning of Labor Day in Korea.
Historically, Labor Day in Korea began in 1923 during Japanese colonization period led by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions. And then, the date of it has changed several time. In 1994, Labor Day was designated as a holiday. Most Korean have a day off but workers in small companies may not be applied. There is an enormous ceremony in Seoul and have staged street rallies. However, few people attend the event, most people just enjoy their day off.
