I don’t have the exact statistics to be properly proved, but I sometimes see news like that more women have got certificates for being lawyers or accountants. There is no reason not to pick a person as an employee depending on their gender. Once someone is qualified, he or she can get the same opportunities relatively.
However, structurally, the society still has some possibility to be dominated by men in many industries.
Commonly, people say that you have to major in relating to science in order to easily get a job. Because Korean economy is tilted towards manufacturing. There are more opportunities as engineers or managers having scientific knowledge which boys are usually keen on to study.
I had about 270 classmates in my Univ. for mechanical engineering, and there were only 3 female students.
